Born in the heights of the himalayan mountains, the monkua people live in harmony with nature. They live simple lives, farming crops, feeding cattle, and occasionally smoking regional mountain weed from wooden pipes.

The monkua are a tremendously religious people. They worship the gods that surround them, performing rituals and creating offerings for their mountain gods. Each year, a handful of monklings are chosen to become monks, and are sent to monasteries for a life of discipline and humility.

Although being a monk is regarded as a prestigious position among the monkua, not all monks are happy with their fate. Tired of long, strenuous workdays, the lazy monks formed a silent rebellion against their fellow monks. The lazy monks preferred to smoke, enjoy the beauty of nature and gaze at the surrounding mountain peaks.

Together, the monks agreed to leave the monasteries to enjoy their lives to the fullest.

The lazy monk movement led to an exodus of monks from Himalayan monasteries.
